Tips

Toggling the controls

In Brushes, you can always toggle the visibility of the navigation bar and toolbar by tapping the screen once.

Quickly access the eyedropper

When painting, tap and hold for half a second to bring up the eyedropper tool. This allows you to quickly choose a color you've previously applied to the painting.

Zooming and panning

When painting, use the standard pinching gesture to zoom in and out. When zooming, you can also pan by dragging both fingers, but if you lift one finger you can pan without accidentally changing the zoom level.

Filling the painting

Fill a painting with a semi-transparent color to give it a tint. The last fill color you use will become the default background color for new paintings.

Exporting paintings

In Brushes v1.0, you must export your painting to your photo album to email it, assign it to a contact, etc. To do this you can either:

  1. Choose the "Add to Photos" action when viewing a painting
  2. Take a screenshot of your painting by holding down the home button and pressing the power button (this works in any iPhone application)
Your painting will then be accessible from within the "Photos" app and you can do anything with it that you can do with a normal photo, including syncing with iPhoto.
